Enthusiasts will be pleasantly surprised by the fun-to-drive characteristics of the front-drive 2014 Dodge Avenger.The Avenger offers shoppers the choice of a 173-horsepower four-cylinder engine or a 283-horsepower V6. Both engines can come with either a four- or six-speed automatic transmission. It certainly doesn't feel like anything close to a Dodge mid-size sedan of the recent past, as the suspension set-up, the steering and the capable brakes combine to make it behave like some imported sports sedan. Optional is a 283-hp, 3.6-liter V6 and a 6-speed automatic. The price is thousands less than other mid-size V6s, yet it's the most powerful V6 in its class. The V6 engine includes dual exhaust tips, R/T models have a body-color grille and blacked-out trim.

Design of the '14 Avenger

The 2014 Dodge Avenger shares much of its engineering with the Chrysler 200 sedan. The differences between the two come down to styling, as the Avenger's more aggressive shape is aimed at a younger audience. The Avenger's trim lines are SE, SXT, SXT Plus and R/T. The SE is reasonably well equipped, while moving up to the SXT and SXT Plus will get you features like automatic climate control, heated seats and an upgraded sound system with digital music storage. The Avenger's interior boasts soft-touch materials and tight construction; both are among the best you'll find in a midsize sedan. The Dodge interior designers have delivered a very nice interior in the 2014 Avenger, with a pleasing design, comfortable and supportive seats, attractive colors, quality fabrics and soft-touch materials. The back seat is acceptable for adults, if not great, and will fold in a 60/40 split. The front passenger seat folds flat. Avenger SE retails for hundreds of dollars less than the next competitive mid-size sedan, and it comes well equipped.

In total, the Dodge Avenger is a solid sedan that could be worth a test-drive, particularly if you're prioritizing a V6 power plant and value.
